Whatever you prefer to title this day, it has arrived. I present to you a traditional King Cake. I baked this for Mardi Gras, 2008 but this is a better day to exhibit it.

The symbolism goes as such: The cake is round to represent the crown of the kings. It is a tri-braid, to represent the three kings. Hidden within one of the portions is a flour baby, to represent the Christ that the kings were in search of. The colors represent the traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras.

This bready cake is usually made for Mardi Gras because it uses lots of eggs, butter, and flour--things that must be purged from the home prior to Lent.

The little buns to the side are made from the scraps that occur when you trim the dough. Also, don't mind the date of the photograph. So, I didn't set the time and the clock on my camera, what of it?!?
